Supplements have come a long way from simply providing athletes with protein. Supplementation has become a vital aspect of the athletic experience, from complete multivitamins to powerful pre-workouts. Leading the charge on high quality supplementation is a well-established company called Optimum Nutrition. Optimum Nutrition has a reputation for producing great supplements, but their hybrid supplement (Natural 100% Oats and Whey) aims to change the way we do supplementation from now on.

Taste and Mixability:

Hopefully, you didn’t expect too much variety here. There are actually only two flavors (Milk Chocolate and Vanilla) for Oats and Whey. Both flavor profiles are decent; nothing to write home about, but definitely respectable (especially when you start to consider everything that goes into this supplement). Keep in mind that this supplement has no artificial sweeteners; nothing but natural sugars here.

The mixability of this supplement was pretty good. Don’t be surprised if you have little fragments of powder floating around in your shaker cup. You won’t experience any clumping or anything particularly distracting, so no worries there. The only thing to keep in mind is that you might experience a bit of sugar at the bottom of your shaker bottle. Not a deal breaker, but still somewhat annoying.

Value:

Here’s where Natural 100% Oats and Whey starts to impress us. It’s not uncommon for high quality supplements (even simple protein ones) to cost you a significant amount of money. The beauty of this supplement is not only that it’s relatively inexpensive (just over $1.00 per day), but it’s actually much more complex than most other supplements on the market today.

The best price we found for a 3 lb tub (26 servings) was $27.95 at IllPumpYouUp.com.

Effectiveness:

Of course, having a cheap supplement means nothing if it doesn’t work. Fortunately for you, our Optimum Nutrition Oats and Whey review made one thing abundantly clear: this supplement does its job.

Not only will this supplement provide you with plenty of protein (24 grams of protein, in fact), but this supplement provides one powerful ingredient that will change the way you look at protein supplements from now on: fiber. 4 grams of fiber per serving is enough to help your gastrointestinal health and turn this into your new favorite protein powder.

As if that wasn’t enough, Oats and Whey provides you with plenty of slow-digesting complex carbohydrates, meaning that this supplement is great for breakfast as well as after a workout.

Side Effects:

Honestly? We didn’t experience anything. The only thing to keep in mind is that the amount of fiber in Oats and Whey can make you head to the bathroom a little more frequently. And of course, if you start to feel ill at any point, stop taking this supplement and consult your doctor.

For For

  • Added complex carbs
  • Decent amount of protein (24g)
  • Great price
  • Good amount of fiber (4g)
  • No artificial flavors

Against Against

  • Consistency can be a little gritty (mainly the sugar)
  • Taste may be a little bland when taken with water

Optimum Nutrition Oats and Whey – Our Verdict:

In a world where every supplement is fighting for your attention (and your money), it’s nice to find one that actually deserves it. Oats and Whey combined the muscle building power of whey protein with the digestive support of fiber to create a supplement that works to support your health. And if there’s one thing we learned from our Optimum Nutrition Natural 100% Oats and Whey review, it’s the importance of giving consumers exactly what they want: high-quality supplements that support your entire body.
